Stephan Snyder Obituary

Stephan D. Snyder, age 81, passed away at his rural Mendon home on Friday, September 10, 2021, after a lengthy illness.

He was born January 27, 1940, in Mercer County, to the late Waldo Woodrow and Arvella Lucille (Freewald) Snyder.

Stephan and Audrey C. Clay were united in marriage on August 19, 1960, and recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary.

Audrey survives, along with their son and daughter-in-law, Steve (Diane) Snyder and daughter, Kellie Snyder, all of Mendon.

Stephan was the proud grandfather of Erika (Steven) Martin, Derik (Jordan) Snyder, and Kylie (Seth) Owens, and great grandchildren: Avery, Willow, Sloane, Aiden, Izayah, Jahzayah and Jaxson.

Other surviving family members include his sister, Jill (Dan) Myers, brothers and sisters-in-law: Carole McGillvary, Linda Snyder, Rick Clay, Jim Clay and Scott Clay, and many nieces and nephews.

Stephan was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Terrill Snyder, Woodrow Snyder and Roberta Kay Snyder, and brothers-in-law: Montie McGillvary and Richard Clay.

After graduating from Mendon-Union High School with the Class of 1958, Stephan worked for a time at the Sharp Canning Company in Rockford.  After 41 years of service, Stephan retired from Huffy Manufacturing in Celina, as a supervisor in the welding department.  Stephan also worked for many years on the family farm, either prior to or after his shifts at Huffy's.

During his retirement, Stephan loved watching the grandkids play ball, and faithfully attended their events.  Stephan and Audrey enjoyed taking vacations to warm climates, including several Caribbean destinations, and their twice-yearly trips to Florida.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 14, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, with his granddaughter, Kylie Owens, serving as Celebrant.
