Rose Mary (Abels) Yaney, age 82, passed away at her residence in Celina on July 31, 2011.
Born in Mercer County on March 27, 1929, Rose Mary was the daughter of the late Oscar and Marie (Braun) Birkmeyer.
She married Wilfred "Bill" Abels, and he preceded her in death in 1955.
Rose Mary is survived by two sons:
Jerry Abels of Denver, CO, Tom (Lynn) Abels of Rockford, and two daughters: Tina (Steve) Temple of Celina and Mary Abels of Lima.
Also surviving are three brothers:
Max (Eleanor) Birkmeyer of Fort Lauderdale, FL,
Louis (Patricia) Birkmeyer of Denver, CO and Charlie (Jan) Grieshop of Mendon. A sister, Margaret Swartz survives in Minster. Rose Mary was proud to be grandmother to 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchidren and 3 step grandchildren.
Preceding Rose Mary in death were a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Wilma Abels, a granddaughter, Destiny Longenecker, and her step-father, Ed Grieshop.
Rose Mary was a graduate of the Coldwater High School Class of 1948 and a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Celina.
She was a homemaker and had worked at many area restaurants over the years, including John's Bar, Bettie's and Kremer's Restaurants in Coldwater, Meinerding's Restaurant in Ft. Recovery and Arnie's Corner and Coldwater Creek Landing on Grand Lake.
Rose Mary was devoted to praying the Rosary several times each day and also enjoyed crocheting. She was a fan of the "Rachel Ray" and "I Love Lucy" television shows. She enjoyed bird watching outside her window. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M., Thursday, August 4, and from 9:15 - 10:15 A.M. on Friday, August 5 at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 5 at Immaculate Conception Church in Celina. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Coldwater.
