Robert Davis Obituary

Former St. Marys resident Robert L. Davis, age 88, passed away at the HealthPark Care Center in Ft. Myers, Florida on January 28, 2012.

Born in Union City, Ohio on December 18, 1923, the son of the late Robert C. and Miriam B. (Jobes) Davis.

Robert first married Marjorie Weimer, who died in September of 1960. He then married Mary M. Gibson Casler on December 8, 1961 and she survives in Ft. Myers, where they recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Surviving are a son: Mark A. (Sonya) Davis of Ft. Myers, a daughter: Jolene Burke of St. Marys, four grandchildren: Douglas Burke, Nicholas Burke, Beth Burke and Rachel Davis, five great grandchildren and a brother: James L. Davis of Union City, IN.

Robert was preceded in death by a daughter: Carol Elaine Davis and two sons: Ronald L. Davis and Douglas L. Casler.

He retired as an Industrial Engineer in 1981 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys and was a 1941 graduate of Union City High School in Indiana. Robert proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.

For 13 years, Robert was Caretaker of the St. Marys Boat Club. He served 2 terms as President of the School Board at Auglaize School in New Bremen and worked along with the school board and parents to get their new school and workshop built in the late 60's.

Robert loved raising orchids and spending time outdoors including camping, boating and fishing; and shared this love with his family at every opportunity.


He was a member of the Araba Shrine Temple of Ft. Myers; Mercer Lodge No. 121 Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio, Chapter No. 51 Royal Arch Masons of Ohio and Council No. 81 Royal & Select Masons, all of St. Marys; Sidney Commandry No. 46 Knights Templar; Ohio Priory No. 18 Masonic Knights of the York Cross of Honour and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton.


Graveside Services will be held 11 AM Thursday, February 2nd at Union City Cemetery in Union City, Indiana. Rev. Alex Hershey will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 PM, Wednesday, February 1st.

The strength and character of this good and gentle man, especially during very difficult times, has left a lasting legacy with all who knew and loved him.
