Raymond Douglas Giesige, age 71, of Celina, Ohio, died of a heart attack on September 29, 2021 at Coldwater Hospital.
Doug was the son of the late Raymond L. and Patricia Giesige and the eldest of eleven children; Mary (Bob), Marcia (Randy), Sally (deceased, Jerry), David (Isabel), Fred (Ann, Terry), Joseph (deceased), Gregory (Sue), Mark (Jean), Thomas (Sue), and Amy (Chris).
He served two tours in Vietnam as a demolition specialist and minesweeper with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and was awarded three Purple Hearts, among other medals. Upon his return, he led veteran support groups and began work as an innovative local carpenter and builder.
Doug was an idiosyncratic, brilliant, and curious student of the human condition. He found meaning in the absurdity of life and loved to impart this wisdom with his trademark wit and irreverence.
He was a problem-solver with unfailingly unique solutions and a workingman’s philanthropist who touched many lives in large and small ways. Doug cherished his family, amazing friends, cats, storytelling, and sometimes just wondering.
Doug is survived by his wife, Henrie, and had four children; Autumn (deceased), Gabriel (Claire), Jacob, and Samantha, and two beloved grandchildren, Graham and Conrad.
Please come share your memories at a celebration of his life on October 10, 2021 at Celina Eagles (1400 E. Market St. Celina, Ohio 45822) beginning at 1pm, with military rites at 3 pm. Masks required for all attendees.
