Oran Barber Obituary

Walter Oran Barber, Age 99, died at 4:00 P.M., January 6, 2013 at Pleasant View Lodge in McCordsville, Indiana.


Born on August 1, 1913 in Auglaize County Ohio, he was the son of Walter & Minnie Miller Barber.


Oran and Magdalene "Shorty" Skinner were married on December 21, 1932,
and she passed away on November 4, 2001.


Surviving are 2 Sons: Bill (Barbara) Barber of rural St. Marys and Bob (Ladonna) Barber of Dothan, Alabama and a Daughter: Janet (George) Grabbe of Greenfield, Indiana, as well as 6 Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, 6 Step Great Grandchildren, 12 Great Great Grandchildren and several Nieces & Nephews.


He was also preceded in death by his Parents, a Brother: Willis Barber and 2 Sisters: Luella Trempert and Marian Nelson.


Oran was a 1931 Graduate of Mendon-Union High School. He had worked at several auto dealerships in St. Marys before moving to Florida in 1954. He retired from the Florida Gas Transmission Company in 1978.
He and his wife moved to Indiana in 2000, where they resided with their daughter.


An avid Christian, he had attended the Nazarene Church in Ohio and was a member of the Clearwater Florida First Church of the Nazarene and had attended Amity United Methodist Church in Greenfield.

Oran was an aviation enthusiast, having owned and built several airplanes while living in Florida, and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Florida Historical Aviation Society.

Viewing will be at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina
from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 12, followed by Services starting at 2:00 P.M. Pastor Larry Bush of the Amity United Methodist Church will officiate.

Burial will be at Calvary Evangelical Cemetery in Salem Township, Auglaize County.


Memorial Contributions may be made to The Church of the Nazarene or The Gideons International.
