Marilyn Elaine Hawk, age 80, of Celina, passed away November 20, 2011 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
Born in Celina on January 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Eugene C. and Hilda P. (Schoch) Heckler. She married Richard E. Hawk on June 14, 1952 and he preceded her in death on October 24, 1995.
Surviving Marilyn are seven children: C. Gene Hawk, Sandusky, Daniel (Renee) Hawk, Bothell, WA, John Hawk, Fostoria, Mary Kay (Mark) Pierce, Mansfield, Richard A. Hawk, Russia,OH, Patricia (Mike) Chappie, Troy and Michael (Alberta) Hawk, Wapakoneta. Twenty one grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive along with a sister, Patricia Hay, Celina.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Velma Jean Heckler.
Marilyn had worked in nursing at Otis Hospital and Total Care Nursing Home, both formerly of Celina. She had maintained her nursing license and currently taught "Family to Family" classes locally for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
In 1949, Marilyn graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Celina and in 1953 she completed her nurses' training, graduating from the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Dayton. She
was active with the Mercer County Council on Aging (Senior Citizens) and had served on the board.
Marilyn was a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Church, Celina and was active in many roles within the church and school. She was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella. She particularly enjoyed volunteering in the school cafeteria.
Loving her kids and grandkids and spending time with them was Marilyn's greatest hobby. She enjoyed sending notes and cards to friends and family. She was an excellent Ping-Pong player and enjoyed playing Pinochle and Bridge. Marilyn enjoyed hunting for bittersweet and wild mushrooms. She was an avid fan of Cincinnati Reds baseball.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 26th at Immaculate Conception Church, Celina. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, Friday, November 25th and from 9:00-9:45 AM on Saturday.
Private burial services will be held at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
