Marcella Hemmelgarn Obituary

Marcella Hemmelgarn, age 106, was born in Sharpsburg, Ohio on December 31, 1918 and passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater, Ohio.

Her parents were Henry and Emma (Huber) Kaiser.

She married Richard, the love of her life, on May 6, 1939.  Before his death on September 12, 1999, they celebrated 60 years of marriage.  Dad’s parents were Joseph and Anna (Rammel) Hemmelgarn.

Mom is survived by her children, Virginia Klenke, Alice Hemmelgarn, Marjorie and Douglas Brookhart, Edward Hemmelgarn and Janice Hammond, Gerald and Cynthia (Overholt) Hemmelgarn, Joseph Hemmelgarn and daughter-in-law Barbara Tierney (Ronald Hemmelgarn).

Preceding her in death were daughter Joanne (Kenneth) Ford, son Ronald Hemmelgarn, son-in-law Ivo Klenke, and grandchildren Deborah Ford and Derek Hemmelgarn.

In addition, she is survived by twenty grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. All of them were loved by Mom.  She was able to attend many of their baptisms, graduations, and weddings.

She was an avid card player and baker.  We all enjoyed her many pies and cookies.  She loved sending cards along with an enclosed letter.

All her brothers, sisters and in-laws preceded her in death:  Stella and Lawrence Broering, Lee and Alma Kaiser, Luetta and John Reichert, Edward and Dorthea Kaiser, Bernard and Mary Kaiser, Joseph and Adella Kaiser, Albert Kaiser, Richard and Eileen Kaiser, Rosella and Walter Hierholzer and Herbert and Rosemary Kaiser, in-laws Harold and Alma Hemmelgarn.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Celina as well as the Ladies Altar Rosary and the Ladies Auxiliary.  Mom and Dad enjoyed working with the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Mom dedicated plentiful years to being a homemaker, during which she raised eight children.  In later years she worked at Goldstein’s Department Store.
