Mabel Leota Koontz, Age 96, of Celina, passed away at 7:50 A.M., Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
Born January 7, 1915 in Hopewell Township, Mercer County, Ohio, Mabel was the daughter of John & Nettie (Smith) Now.
Mabel and Lawrence R. Koontz were married on October 28, 1933. He died October 24, 1994.
Surviving Mabel are her Daughter: Joan Stetler of Rockford, A Daughter-in-law: Madonna Koontz of Celina, A Sister: Margaret Weitz of Xenia and 7 Grand, 14 Great Grand & 13 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Son: Dwight Koontz, 3 Sisters: Loretta Fast, Beulah Bradford & Laveda Baucher, A Brother: Herbert Now, A Grandson: Richard Snider and A Son-in-law: Dick Stetler.
Mabel and Lawrence had been the owners of the Gamble's Store and she also worked as a Bookkeeper at The Barr Co. Department Store, both formerly of Celina, and she was a Homemaker.
A 1933 Graduate of Rockford High School, Mabel was a member of the Hopewell Grange and Bethany United Methodist Church in Celina, its Women's Society, and had played the piano and organ at the church for many years.
Her hobbies were quilting and crocheting, and she gave many quilts and afghans to her grandchildren. Mabel also spent many hours putting together jigsaw puzzles.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 19
at W.H. Dick & Sons - Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina with Reverend Jonathan Exman officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling Hours are 3:00 - 7:00 P.M., Sunday, September 18 and 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the Funeral Home.
