Leona Christine Hansel, age 79 of Mendon, died at her on residence Friday, January 28, 2011.
Born April 27, 1931 in Dalhart, Texas, Leona was the daughter of the late Edward and Amelia (Fark) Harjehausen.
On August 22, 1953, Leona married Claude Hansel who died June 1, 1998.
Leona is survived by a son, Tim Hansel of Celina and two daughters, Nancy (Darrell) Etgen and Kay Hansel, all of Mendon.
Five grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
A sister, Lucille Draving survives in Beavercreek. A brother, Harold Harjehausen is deceased.
Leona and her husband Claude owned and operated Hansel's Recreation in Mendon for 36 years.
She also worked at Celina Insurance Group. For the last 28 years, Leona had worked in the office at the Mercer County Council on Aging.
Leona was a graduate of New Bremen High School. She was a member of Mendon First Church of God, where she taught Sunday School and was a deaconess. She was a member and treasurer of the WCSC (Womens Christian Service Council).
Visitation was held on January 31, 2011 at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Mendon from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Funeral services were held at the church at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Rev. Dean Bruce officiated. Burial was at Mendon Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Leona's memory to the church or to the Mercer County Council on Aging.
