John W. Robbins, 69, of rural Celina, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following a brief illness.
He was born April 13, 1942 in Celina to the late Roy A. & Opal G. Monroe Robbins.
On May 7, 1977 he married Naomi Hover, and she died July 14, 2009.
Survivors include a Son, Dwayne ( Kimberly ) Beal of Germantown, a Brother, Tom ( Mary Jane ) Robbins of Celina, a Sister, Mary Robbins of Vandalia, a Brother-in-law: Lavern ( Sue ) Hover of Lima, a Sister-in-law: Glenna ( Dale ) Kriewald of Florence, AZ
and five Grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathan "Jon", Jonah, Jett & Jadyn Beal.
He was preceded in death by a Daughter, Teresa Beal.
He was a 1960 graduate of Celina High School and attended The Ohio State University. He served four years with the U.S. Army in Germany.
John was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Liberty Township, where he had served on the Church Cemetery Board. He was also a member of Celina American Legion Post #210, Mercer County Farm Bureau and the Belgian Draft Horse Corporation of America.
He retired as a telephone technician from Verizon and had farmed.
John had many varied interests. His hobbies were blacksmithing ornate iron tables, polka dancing, studying German history,
woodworking and watching horse racing and baseball. He enjoyed raising and working with Belgian Horses.
Funeral Services are 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 5 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Reverend Catherine Costello will officiate. Burial will be at the Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M., Friday, November 4 at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina and 1 hour prior to services Saturday at the Church.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
