Jimmy R. Severns, age 78, of Mendon, died November 5, 2011 at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.
Born in Mercer County on March 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Otto and Ruby (Thomas) Severns.
On April 28, 1957, he married Freda Eileen Crider and she survives along with a son, Carl (Marsha) Severns and a sister-in-law, Doris Severns, all of Mendon.
Also surviving are a grandson, Matt Bretz and three great grandchildren, Jordan and Isiah Bretz and Brittney McCoy.
Preceding Jimmy in death were a son, Rickey Dean Severns, a brother, Joe Severns and three sisters: Ruth Ida Roller, Janice Engle and Eugenia Archer. A great grandaughter, Alissa Rose Bretz also preceded him in death.
Jimmy attended Mendon Union High School. He joined the United States Army and served in Korea, where he completed his education.
A factory worker, Jimmy had been employed by Mersman Tables in Celina and retired from Aeroquip in Van Wert. He also owned and operated his own business, Severns Spray Painting.
He had been a member of the former Wesley Chapel and had attended Mendon United Methodist Church.
Jimmy was a former member of the Rockford Eagles and also a member of the Celina American Legion Post #210 and the Spencerville VFW Post #6772.
Visitation will be held at the Mendon Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, November 8, and from 10-11 A.M., Wednesday, November 9, 2011.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday at the Mendon funeral home with the Rev. Don Clinger officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Mendon Cemetery.
