Howard R. Harner, age 90, of Celina, passed away at The Gardens at Celina on Friday, February 3, 2012.
Born May 16, 1921 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Clem and Laura (Donovan) Harner.
Surviving Howard are his wife of 62 years, Audrey (Davis) Harner, whom he married on December 16, 1949, a son, Duane (Sue) Harner of Celina, a daughter, Wanda Harner of Florida, 1 grandchild, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, James Shauver of Coldwater and a sister-in-law, Winifred Johnson of Van Wert, along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Alberta Louise Harner, a brother & sister-in-law, Orval & Helen Harner and a sister & brother-in-law, Gladys Kuhn Shauver & George Kuhn.
Howard had attended the Clutter School House in rural Celina. He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Hawaii and the Phillippines.
Howard was a farmer in Hopewell Township and had raised cows and hogs. He also worked as a lathe operator at Tractors Inc. in Celina for 26 years, until his retirement. He had worked at the Farm Supply Store in Celina, the State Highway Garage and had been a truck driver, hauling gas and milk.
Howard was a member of Mt. Tabor Church of God, American Legion Post #210 and VFW Post #5713, all of Celina.
Howard enjoyed walking in the countryside.
Services will be held at the Mt. Tabor Church at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 8th, with Revs. Richard Van Horn and Jim Keiser officiating.
Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina, with full military rites.
Visitation hours are at the Celina funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Tuesday, February 7th and from 10-11 AM, Wednesday at the Church.
