Former Mendon resident, Harry Benjamin "Benny" Young Jr., age 57, of Summerfield, Florida, died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Ocala, Florida on Thursday afternoon, February 16, 2012.
Born on December 7, 1954 in Celina, he was the firstborn child of Harry B. "Bennie" and Doris (Henderson) Young Sr., who survive in Mendon.
Benny is survived by his children: Doris (Matthew) Crim and Harry B. Young III, both of Mount Vernon and Crystal (Brent) Kline of Van Wert and three grandchildren: Cynthia Crim and Jacob & Tina Kline.
Also surviving are eight siblings: Deb (Tom) Wycuff of Celina, Mike (Tanya) Young, Dave (Lori) Young and Bill Young, all of Mendon, Jim Young of Marshall, MI, Penny (Greg) Zizelman of Mendon and Sue (Greg) Hinegardner and Ginger (Jeff) Bollenbacher, both of Rockford. His girlfriend, Dyan Harrington, survives in Summerfield. Preceding Benny in death was a niece, Stacy Wycuff.
He attended Mendon-Union Schools and the Mendon First Church of God. Benny was self employed as a truck driver owner/operator, had worked for a time as a welder at Schuck Metal Fabrication in Celina and also had worked with his father in the family business, Bennie Young Construction of Mendon.
Benny had many interests. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring old cars and watching his granddaughter compete at rodeos. He also participated in the United Wagon Train and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping and boating.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 23rd at the Mendon First Church of God, with Rev. Dean Bruce officiating. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mendon Funeral Home from 3-8 PM, Wednesday, February 22nd and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
