Gladys Barnes Scales, Age 90,
a resident of Celina since 1955,
passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born April 15, 1922 in Somerset, KY, the daughter of the late Henry & Rushia Lewis Barnes.
She married James Thomas Scales on June 14, 1947 and he passed away on November 24, 1996.
She is survived by two daughters: Wanda Kay Hole of St. Marys
and Linda Susan Scales of Dayton, a Grandson: Aaron James Hole, three sisters: Pauline Snyder and Mary (Bud) Moening of Dayton
and Joyce Kunka of Jacksonville, FL and a sister-in-law, Simone Scales of St. Clairsville, OH.
Gladys was preceded in death by her son-in-law: Lloyd James Hole, a brother: Clinton Barnes, two sisters: Nora Barnes and Virginia Hartings and four brothers-in-law.
She was a 1941 graduate of Shopville High School in Kentucky.
Before her marriage, Gladys had worked at Delco Products. She was a homemaker and served as a poll worker for the Mercer County Board of Elections.
A long time member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Celina,
Gladys served on various church committees and as a Sunday School Teacher.
She enjoyed traveling and square dancing, and Gladys and her husband Jim had met at a dance. She was also a member of the neighborhood card club.
Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 29th at Bethany United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jon Exman officiating.
Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Arrangements are by W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home.
