Elizabeth Schmidt Obituary

Mendon resident Elizabeth J. "Betty" Schmidt, age 83, passed away at her residence on Thursday, March 8, 2012.

Born in Geneva, Indiana on October 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Glen and Hazel (Morgan) Grogg.

Betty married Bennett "Ben" Schmidt on September 3, 1988 and he survives in Mendon.

Also surviving are two sons: Steven (Gilda) Teeple of Valparaiso, IN and Mark (Evelyn) Teeple of Angola, IN, two daughters: Diana (Robert) Fields of Portland, IN and Betty Lawrence (Randy Petit) of Celina and five step-children: Roger (Sherry) Schmidt of Columbus, Kevin (Heather) Schmidt of Celina, Mike Schmidt of Lima, Lisa (Mark) Jones of Mount Vernon and Lori Huffman (Brad Weyandt) of Mendon, 10 grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren.

Brothers and sisters surviving are: Robert Grogg of Portland, IN, Pat Moser of Bluffton, IN, Thomas (Jo) Grogg and Mary Ann (Jim) Bailey, both of Geneva, IN and a sister-in-law: Joyce Grogg of Mendon and brother-in-law: Dick Fields of Berne, IN.

Preceding Betty in death were husbands: Keith Teeple and Edward L. Brown, as well as 3 sons: Roger Teeple in 1993, Larry Teeple in 2002 and Bruce Teeple in 2005, 2 sisters: Crystal Hough and Katherine Fields, 2 brothers: Glen and Don Grogg, 2 grandchildren: Barney Fields and Sara Beth Teeple, and a great-grandson.

A 1946 graduate of Hartford High School in Adams County, IN, Betty had worked at the former Celina Coffee Shop and the St. Marys Woolen Mill and retired from the former Huffy Bicycle Plant in Celina.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Celina. Betty loved fishing and hunting mushrooms with her husband, Ben. She also enjoyed feeding and watching birds, and flower gardening.

Services will be held at the Mendon Funeral Home at 1:30 P.M., Sunday, March 11th with Fr. Les Schmidt, officiating. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-7 P.M., Saturday, March 10th and 1 hour prior to services on Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Betty may be made to State of the Heart Hospice.
