Dean L. Temple, age 88, of Mendon, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the Colonial Nursing Center in Rockford.
He was born August 2, 1932, in Dublin Township, to the late Carl & Helen (Hileman) Temple.
Dean and Jean Haas were married on November 24, 1957. Jean survives, along with their 5 children: Deb Clark of St. Peters, Missouri, Terry (Mary) Temple of Mendon, Vicki (Steve) Bauer of Belleville, Illinois, Jeff (Laurie) Temple of Coldwater, and Michael (Chi) Temple of Rockford.
He is also survived by a sister, Lois Schaadt, of Fort Wayne, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren plus 1 on the way, and sisters-in-law: Phyllis Temple of Fort Wayne and Diane Haas of Lima.
Dean was preceded in death by a brother, Don Temple and brothers-in-law: Larry Haas and Don Schaadt.
A 1951 graduate of Rockford High School, Dean served with the U.S. Army from 1951-1954, stationed at White Sands, New Mexico, as a Radioman. He was employed with Miller Bros. Construction of Archbold for 40+ years, working on road construction projects all over the area.
Dean was a life member of The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 18 of Ohio, Mercer County Sportsmen's Association, and Rockford American Legion Post #508. He was a member of Mendon United Methodist Church and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) .
Dean enjoyed woodworking, making a variety of items including puzzles, crafts, and quilt racks. He liked working on cars. Another favorite pastime was hunting - deer, rabbits, squirrels - whatever was in season.
Calling Hours will be held at Mendon United Methodist Church on Friday, November 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, followed by the Funeral Service beginning at Noon. Pastor Rob Glenn will officiate. Burial is at Mendon Cemetery.
Those attending are required to wear masks, practice social distancing as much as possible, and follow the COVID-19 guidelines established by Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health.
