David W. Schwartz, age 77, of Celina, passed away at his residence on Friday, March 12, 2021.
Dave was born September 20, 1943, in Toledo, the only child of the late Kenneth & Evelyn ( Witty ) Schwartz.
On September 1, 1984, Dave was united in marriage with Marjorie Beckstedt.
Margie survives, along with three children: Andy (Fabienne) Schwartz of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Heidi (Tim) Thees and Denny Hull of Celina, and four grandchildren: Derek Drummond, Sara Thees, Austin Hull and Randall Hull.
Dave was a Severe Behavioral Handicapped (SBH) Teacher for 14 years at Van Wert City Schools. Over the years, he also taught and coached at other area schools, including Mendon-Union, Marion Local and Fort Recovery.
Dave enjoyed anything sports related. Many will remember him as the owner of Dave's Dugout in Celina, which later became the Main Street Emporium.
Dave and Margie established a charity, "Midwest Racing Fanatics", which benefited Hospice, then later "Midwest Auto Racing Charities", which assisted injured race drivers.
Dave and Margie had served as host parents for Grand Lake Mariners Baseball Club players. He attended the Covenant Community Church in Coldwater.
Calling Hours are at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, Wednesday, March 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, with the Funeral Service to begin at Noon. Pastor Eric Muhlenkamp is officiating.
Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery in Celina.
Those attending are required to wear masks, practice social distancing as much as possible, and follow the COVID-19 guidelines established by Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health.
