Thecla E. Batin, age 80, of Montezuma, passed away at her residence Tuesday evening, January 8, 2019.
She was born November 11, 1938, in Muncie, Indiana, to the late William Raymond & Harriette L. (White) Alfont.
Thecla married Willard Hight, and he preceded her in death in April, 1987. She married Robert Batin on July 13, 1991, and he survives, along with her daughters: Cindy Hight of Lima, Charlotte (Donald) Brayman of Virginia, Cathy Kosboth of Celina, and Candy (Jeff) Cyphers of Saybrook, Ohio.
Also surviving are her grandchildren: Annette (Bob) Lira, Katrina (Paul) Volbert, Erin Kosboth, Nate Kosboth, John Brayman, and Joshua Cyphers, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, her sister, Barbara Undem of Muncie, son-in-law, Bill Motter of Waynesfield, sister-in-law, Kathye Alfont of Florida, and nieces & nephews: Billie Jo Ellis Van Houten, Kevin (Marcie) Undem, Curt (Annette) Alfont, Karen Undem, Steve (Melissa) Alfont, Tracee Simpson, Lyn (Fred) Gilroy, Daniel Hight, and David (Judy) Hight.
Thecla was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Motter, and two brothers: Cecil (Alice) Alfont and William Alfont.
A homemaker, Thecla was very active in the community. She was a long-time member of the Montezuma Church of Christ, and recently attended Celina Church of the Nazarene. She was the director, and also played in the Church Bell Choir.
Thecla loved to support and encourage others by sending personalized cards for all occasions. She was also involved in many social activities. Thecla played the violin in the Grand Lake Symphony Orchestra, and was a member of the Magyar Hungarian Club in Dayton. She was an avid bowler since the 1970's.
Thecla enjoyed playing Pinochle and Euchre, and was a member of the Chickasaw Card Club. Other interests were sewing and embroidery, hunting geese, ducks and turkeys, and fishing. Thecla also traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina. Rev. Kevin Neumann and Rev. Chris Riffle will officiate. Burial will be at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling Hours are at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 11, and prior to the Funeral Service on Saturday, from 9:00-10:00 a.m.
