Ned Leroyce Baltzell, age 90, of Mendon, passed away Monday morning, April 10, 2017, at his Granddaughter’s home.
Born August 13, 1926 in Celina, he was a son of the late Floyd A. & Mabel L. (Wurster) Baltzell.
Ned married Audrey Sibert on March 7, 1953, and she preceded him in death on January 22, 2004.
Surviving are a Son and Daughter, Mitzi Jo Loughridge of Show Low, Arizona and Tyron Jay Baltzell of Celina, 2 Grandchildren, Christy (Scott) Whitaker and Nathan (Heather) Baltzell, and 7 Great-Grandchildren: Zander, Zeren, Zayla & Zayn Whitaker and Jasmine, Debra & Tammy Baltzell.
Also surviving is a Brother, Gary (Jean) Baltzell of Rockford, and Sisters-in-law: Martha Baltzell of Rockford, Ruth Kay Baltzell of Findlay and Shirley Baltzell of Celina.
Preceding him in death were 3 Brothers: Fred, Wayne and Jim Baltzell.
Ned had attended Mendon-Union Schools. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, and a member of Bowersock Brothers V.F.W. Post #6772 in Spencerville.
He was a millwright for 21 years at the Lima Ford Engine Plant. Ned also worked as a carpenter for the Lima Local Union, along with other contractors. He built his own home, as well as 50 others.
An active member of the Mendon community, Ned was a member of the Mendon Lions Club, Masons, Eastern Star, and the Mendon United Methodist Church.
Ned enjoyed woodworking, taking yearly vacations with his family, church and community activities, and helping others.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 15, at Mendon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Rob Glenn officiating.
Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina, with graveside military rites to be conducted by the Spencerville Veterans.
Calling Hours are from 2:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 14, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, and an hour prior to services on Saturday, at the church.
Memorial Contributions may be made to The American Heart Association.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
